How does a style emerge? Why do silhouettes change? And how do music, film, anime, games and culture shape our view of fashion? These are questions we continuously research at MATAGI.

How does an idea become a collection? HUMANITY is the creative framework we use within MATAGI to develop collections. It guides new work: clothing, and potentially scent and objects for the home in the future.

At MATAGI, we research the history and evolution of fashion. From the origins of a silhouette to the influence of makers and subcultures. The first stories are in development, with attention to sources, context and the insights that continue to shape our work.

04 / Open Studio

From a first idea
to a design of its own.

Open Studio is where you can follow MATAGI’s making process. Here, we want to share sketches, material choices, samples and experiments, including collections developed through HUMANITY.

The Dutch Jersey is one of the designs in development. The first prototype is ready, and we are preparing a small stock. Orange for the Netherlands, football or simply the colour: there is room for your own reason to wear it when it arrives.

05 / Conversations with makers

For the love of art.

MATAGI grew among creative people. For this conversation series, we meet makers and talk about their work, their lives and their love of making. From dancers and musicians to photographers, designers and painters.

You do not need to make something yourself to be moved by what someone else creates. The series is in preparation; this is where the encounters will find their home.

With each selection, we want to share what we see in it, so you can choose what suits you. We are working towards the first selection. For now, the shop carries our own MATAGI collection.
